Often we have to experience the bad to appreciate the good. Sometimes we have to spend some time apart to realize just how much we would miss having another around. Some people have to go through the rough patch in order to appreciate just how good they have it now. Yes, it would be easier to just embrace the "good" as it comes, but sometimes the way we learn to savor the "good" is to have a little time without it.
