When the country we live in is has states within its border that can put laws on the books to take away rights from a certain group of people, the rights of all people are in jeopardy. Don't think because you don't fall into the targeted class today, you are safe from such actions. Only a short time ago, having black skin made you 3/5ths of a human and having a uterus made you incapable of much of anything, particularly voting. Injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. And when that happens, no one is safe from its wrath.
