Resting your happiness or lack thereof on another is lazy. No other person can be the star of your show, it simply isn't their responsibility. In fact it takes far more effort than they should have to exert for your story. What they serve as is a supporting cast with the purpose of enhancing the show. Take responsibility for your own smile and then share it with those you see fit.
