Are Americans Still Stupid?

Some time ago, way back when then Sen. Obama was attempting to capture the Office of the President, I wrote a blog titled "Are Americans Stupid?" http://naturallyimpressivethoughts.blogspot.com/2008/09/are-americans-stupid.html (Check it out if you haven't before you read on, it will make it all make a bit more sense)

Now, I know that it isn’t fair the just think Americans are stupid because they don’t agree with Barack Obama. But that isn’t the reason I question the intelligence of the American people. This has more to do with the lack of effort most (yes I said most) Americans put toward getting educated about what the government does. I have no respect for your opinion about politics if you are unwilling to get the basic knowledge (ie HS Government and Politics) about how the City, State and Federal governments operate. This way when you are screaming about hating Mike Bloomberg because of the fare hikes of the MTA you would correctly change that hate to David Patterson, as the MTA is a state run agency and Mike Bloomberg as Mayor has NO control over it. It is that kind of willingness to be ignorant to the process but vocal with opinions that drives me crazy. This fact is even more evident on a Federal level where most (yes I said most) people are unaware of which branch of government controls what, therefore they blame the President for or expect the President to do things that are outside his control alone. These are the same people who don’t vote in mid term elections because its not for President, not realizing that your Congressman will have the opportunity to do more for you and your neighborhood than a President ever will. This willingness to be ignorant to the facts is infuriating especially when people ignorant to the facts have an opinion. If you aren’t willing to take the time to learn the process, participate in the process and be engaged in it, then please for the sake of us all, shut the hell up. Because it is all the ignorant people running around with these baseless opinions that make me question, Are Americans Still Stupid?
