While some argue that expecting nothing saves you from disappointment, I say expecting nothing demonstrates your concession to disappointment and an overall acceptance that people aren't capable of meeting expectations. That concession let's others off the hook from having to do what is required and let's you off the hook from having to hold people accountable. Both of which are very disappointing ways to behave.
