“Give advice; if people don't listen, let adversity teach them”
No matter how great it may be, not everyone who is offered your brilliant advice will actually take heed to it. Often, those who reject advice do so simply because someone else is giving it. Nothing said will convince them to take advice from another, even when it is the advice that could save them heartache, pain and missteps. Just because someone wont listen now doesn't mean they wont ever listen. It just means they must live through the experience you are warning them about in order to know it is real. Let them live through it, just as you did. And they will be wiser and better for it, just as you are.
