From a man who went to Memphis on this day to fight for Sanitation Workers and on this day 44 years ago, he died for the freedom of us all - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.”
While there is much to be blamed on the part of those who perpetrate hate and violence and racism and bigotry, those who stand by and watch it occur are culpable as well. Those who witness the oppression and depression of people of any minority group and deny that oppression is occurring are as hateful and cruel as those who are spewing words and actions. You are not absent of responsibility for the error in the ways of this country simply because you yourself don’t participate in them. As Dr. King also said, injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. So whenever you overlook and ignore the injustice you become a participant in that very injustice.
Have an aware day!
