“Lean too much on the approval of people, and it becomes a bed of thorns”

It is an exhausting task constantly seeking the approval of others, for it takes a tremendous amount of work to get it. Realize that people feed off of you and your energy. If you have successfully obtained your own approval for your own actions, those around you may trust in you and in turn follow suit. Or they may not. And in life, it must not matter much one way or the other.
