Food for Urgent Thought
In New York City, 1 in 4 Black Males will graduate from High School (approx. 28%). For the remaining 3 who do not graduate from High school, 2 will face chronic unemployment (approx. 69%). The remaining 1 who didn’t graduate from High School and isn’t facing chronic unemployment is likely to become one of the 877,607 Black Males that was incarcerated in 2009 (roughly 38% of the total population incarcerated). With these statistics, only ONE of the four young men will graduate from high school. An achievement which we know does not determine success alone. Graduation from High School is just the first step in the right direction, and only 1 out of every 4 Black males in NYC is taking a step in that direction. Think of the people you know. Think of the people you know with Sons. Imagine 4 of them and only 1 making it to HS graduation. Then imagine what happens to the other 3…. www.twitter.com/totday09
