“More marriages might survive if the partners realized that sometimes the better comes after the worse.”

Marriage at one time was perceived as sacred union. Due to that perception, not only was that marriage respected by those within it, but also by others outside of it. Like a few things in life, marriage appears to be one thing before you get in it and likely turns out to be something else once you sign up. Married people need the chance to see if the better will come after the worse. Those outside that marriage need to respect the union, just like they would want someone to respect theirs.
