With the state of our current economy many of us are blessed to still be able to make ends meet. Unfortunately, now more than ever there are a greater number of New Yorkers who are unable to put together a holiday dinner because they simply can not afford the groceries. Even worse, there are many of our fellow New Yorker's who don't have places to call home this holiday season.
This is touching me especially deep this year because I am seeing first hand how the downturn of the economy is KILLING the resources of the City of New York. I am not sure if I ever realized how much I love this city or how much I care if it goes to hell. But now, in these times, I know that it is going to take the service of those of us who are fortunate this year, in order to help keep these programs running which serve to help the less fortunate.
So this year for my part, I am asking that anyone who may be thinking of buying me a Christmas/birthday present, to save their money! In exchange, I just ask that you donate a few hours of your time to helping someone who is less fortunate. On Christmas Day, I hope to be at the Bowery Mission serving dinner those effected by this crisis. I hope anyone who is interested will join me. I am also digging in my closet for old coats to donate to NY Cares for their coat drive which ends on December 31, 2008. If anyone has coats they want to donate, let me know and I will pick them up from you. (www.nycares.org )
Thank you for allowing me to flood your emails daily to share with you my thoughts - it is greatly appreciated!
Finally, I want to wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and hope that you remain blessed and highly favored for 2009 and beyond!
~Maliek~
