Thought of the Day - August 18, 2008

From a writer who is long winded, thorough and 100% accurate - Mary Wollstoncraft

"Friendship is a serious affection; the most sublime of all affections, because it is founded on principle, and cemented by time. The very reverse may be said about love. In a great degree, love and friendship cannot subsist in the same bosom; even when inspired by different objects, they weaken or destroy each other and for the same object can only be felt in succession. The vain fears and fond jealousies, the winds which fan the flame of love...are both incompatible with the tender confidence and sincere respect of friendship."

A mouthful indeed, yet, so true and so real. Take a look at your friendships, how long they have lasted, how much you have been through with them (both good and bad) and how committed you remain to those who you call friend in spite of their flaws. Pay attention if you will to the way in which you nurture your friends, always making them feel appreciated and loved without a second thought. Think for one second how much you love your friends without the ill feelings of jealousy, possession and fear which arise in love relationships. Then maybe you can understand why friendship is and always will be the most serious affection of them all.

Have an amazing day!
